TISSNET

TISS National Entrance Test

Conducted by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)

TISSNET was the national entrance test of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences for its postgraduate programmes, most prominently the MA in Human Resource Management & Labour Relations. IMPORTANT: TISS retired TISSNET from the 2025-26 admission cycle under the UGC move to standardised postgraduate admissions — most MA programmes now admit on CUET PG scores and three management programmes on CAT scores. The pattern preserved here is the last one actually conducted: 100 questions in 100 minutes for 100 marks across English Proficiency, Mathematical Skills & Logical Reasoning, and General Awareness, with no negative marking. It remains valuable practice for its unusually broad, social-sector-weighted General Awareness section, which is 40% of the paper.

Exam Pattern

STATUS: TISS retired TISSNET from the 2025-26 admission cycle. Most MA programmes now admit on CUET PG scores and three management programmes on CAT scores. The pattern below is the last one actually conducted and is retained for previous-year practice. TISSNET (as last conducted) — 100 multiple-choice questions in a single 100-minute window, computer-based, three sections: 1. English Proficiency — 30 questions, 30 marks 2. Mathematical Skills & Logical Reasoning — 30 questions, 30 marks 3. General Awareness — 40 questions, 40 marks Marking: +1 for each correct answer and NO negative marking, for a total of 100 marks. There is no sectional timing. One minute per question makes TISSNET the fastest-paced of the major management entrances. General Awareness carried the largest weight at 40% and ranged far wider than a typical MBA GK section — social policy, government schemes, development economics, health, environment, gender and human rights alongside conventional current affairs.

Eligibility

A bachelor's degree of minimum three years' duration from a recognised university. Most TISS programmes did not prescribe a minimum aggregate at the entrance stage. Final-year students may apply provisionally. NOTE: admission is now made through CUET PG or CAT — check the current TISS admission notification for the authoritative criteria.
